Looking for the Magic

Open to the public. Free! In this workshop, we’ll first hear some poems that look for the spark of magic in objects right in front of us. Then we’ll wander around the museum and choose one object that sends a jolt of excitement through us. We’ll study it and take notes. How is it made? Why does it attract us? What parts of the object catch our attention? Then we’ll come back together and work on a poem that attempts to capture that moment of excitement on paper.

A Poem-Stretcher Intensive: Making Poems Go Wider and Deeper

Three hours, 1-4 EDT

This master class open only to IWWG members:

In this workshop, we’ll first look closely at some published poems that stretch amazingly wide. We can use them as models. Then we’ll start from scratch. We’ll write a new poem. Using a beloved, neutral, or hated object to concentrate on (you supply your own object) we’re going to move step by step outward and inward, expanding our sense of what our poems can do.
