       This is a Christmas card. This is a New Year’s card. This is a blog post. This is a letter. I’m giving a poetry reading at the library tomorrow. My youngest sister says on the phone, “What, they haven’t learned to read yet? You have to read to them?” Well, that does bring up the issue of why and how one reads poems aloud. There’s performing a poem and there’s reading a poem. Some poets are awful readers. I have heard them, some of whom have won big prizes. Maybe that’s the problem.
